social studies T4

kia Ora bloggers Today I have something to share.

So In social studies we wrote an essay.

Here is my essay

In 1830 there were 1,000 Māori and 200 Europeans living in New Zealand. The behavior of the Whalers, the Missionaries’ desire to help protect Māori rights, and the Musket Wars were reasons that a treaty was needed. The Declaration of Independence was another contributing factor to the need for a treaty.

One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behavior of some of the British Settlers like whalers. This is important because Maori felt unsafe because of the drunken whalers using Maori women as prostitutes and the moari felt unsafe a treaty could help this by making them not get drunk and use Maori women as prostitutes

Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries. Because the land being brought was taken away from the Maori and they felt bad for them. So the missionaries would have thought the treaty was a good idea because Maori would have their rights cared for. The missionaries probably had sympathy for the Maori losing their land.

Another reason that a treaty was needed was the Musket Wars. Maori were killing each other because of the muskets they traded for. A treaty could have solved this problem by forbidding the use of muskets. Because the death toll of 20,000 people killed by the musket wars.Because Maori tribe territories were growing and shrinking for some tribes

The final reason that a treaty was needed was the existence of the Declaration of Independence. The declaration of independence gave New Zealand the status of an independent country. Because most of the Maori chiefs who signed the declaration of independence signed te Tiriti o Waitangi. But most chefs as well as the Maori king did not sign te Tiriti o Waitangi. Then a few years later the new Zealand wars began

In conclusion, a treaty was needed because most of New Zealand would have gone into chaos and Maori dying left and right. But te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed in 1840 and everything nearly went right as rain.

so what do you think?
